EBGT VII Winners
Konstantinos Mitrelis (Greece) is the new Backgammon King in Europe !
During the Grand Finale of the prestigious "European Backgammon Tour - Season VII" end of July in Munich, "Kostas" was able to prevail in a very tough field of 18 pre-qualified competitors to take the European Backgammon Crown.
Season VII of the EBGT unified 11 tournaments in 10 different countries in Europe and 297 unique players from Europe and abroad.
The 18 qualified players represented 10 different nationalities. Among them, Backgammon Giants such as Masayuki "Mochy" Mochizuki (Japan), Michihito "Michi" Kageyama (Japan), Jürgen Orlowski (Germany), Ralf Jonas (Germany), and former EBGT-winner Mario Sequeira (Portugal). The complete results can be found here.
Konstantinos Mitrelis and runner-up Kamil Karaali (Turkey), performed both greatly and had to beat the best performers of the tournament, round for round to bring title, prize money and trophies back to their respective countries.
Greece and Turkey have both the biggest (traditional) backgammon population in Europe. This victory will hopefully bring more players towards modern backgammon in the future.
